THE YALTA CONFERENCE
- Brought three of the world's most powerful leaders together, in spite of their differences. These men gave a lesson on how to treat harsh situations with democracy.
- The Soviet Union agreed to join the war against Japan in exchange for power over the southern portion of Sakhalin, a lease at Port Arthur, a share in the operation of the Manchurian railroads, and the Kurile Islands.
- The United Nations was created in place of the League of Nations.
THE POTSDAM CONFERENCE
- Germany would be demilitarized.
- The German-Soviet-Polish borders were revised. Poland deported several million Germans once they got their piece of Germany back.
- The Council of Foreign Ministers was formed. This group acted on behalf of the U.S., The Soviet Union, and China to draft peace treaties with Germany's allies.
